      Colloquio

First time entering the business for the interview, I approached a female behind the register and let her know I was there for an interview. She looked at me then looked over my head to another employee and asked "Is it okay if we call them?". She was nervous which made me raise my eyebrow (figuratively). Why was she so afraid of contacting her manager(s) in their office? The other employee was hesitant to call them also and offered that I should just stay up here and they should be out soon. Honestly, it was a very strange vibe. The store owner greeted me after five or so minutes and took me to the back room where his supervisor was. The interview was basic for the job, questions being asked both by store owner and the supervisor. There were only two things that stood out to me. One was that they asked about pets and were very interested to hear if you took care of them (ie took out for walks, fed, cleaned cage). The other about handling employee disagreements which they hinted that there was a lot of in the store, whether it was past or present I was unsure. I went back a day after the interview to purchase pet supplies and was casually ignored by the man at the register and when I asked where a particular product was, he pointed and said "it's over there down that isle" very unhelpful and uninterested. When I went to the aquarium area, the man there was extremely helpful and interested and it felt like a whole different store until I got back out of that corner. Again, being checked out at the register the girl was not friendly and not knowledgeable to a question I asked about a common condition among pets. While I was not offered the position, based on the fearful duo at the beginning and the complete lack of interested in the other employees, I would have declined employment. The atmosphere created by the employees was just too unpleasant, excluding the aquarium area.
