I can't forget this and like to warn everyone, back in 2016 I wanted to get back into Automation and Controls, before that I was mostly focused on Software. I saw this company in Michigan and saw how everything I did in my internship in the past perfectly matches with the job description, I applied, and got phone interview.
In my phone interview, they were 30 minutes late; that should alone have been a red flag, but I so badly wanted to get into Automation, I ignored this. The interview went great as I have done more or less everything and even more what their "desired" qualifications wanted.
After that, I got a call next day by their HR saying "expect an offer letter this week as we are hiring you", I got all excited but wanted to see the company before I move to another state, and mind it, they knew I was in a different state.
This call I got was on Monday and I decided to visit that company on Friday, all this entire week I didn't got the offer letter; every time they said "oh we are just too busy lately that is why". After that I drove all this far using my money, using my expenses for hotel; while I was having financial issues.
Now when I went there, the managers seems to have liked me; even were confused that why I haven't got the offer letter yet. The HR said I will get the offer letter by Monday. On Monday, I didn't got the letter, I called again; they said "wait again for Friday" and I was like "I need to start finding apartment" and later in afternoon I got a response saying "I am sorry we can't hire you", I called and they gave this nonsense answer "oh we just froze new hires".
Maybe they didn't deem me qualified enough for that job and that is perfectly fine, but then don't offer people on phone interview that "you're hired". They didn't expected me to travel to Michigan, but I asked whether I can get an onsite tour to which they agreed. Imagine if I have went there, got apartment and all, and then right when I was starting they would've said I am not qualified for the job, it would have been a disaster.
Moreover, their manager seemed confused why I haven't got the letter; meaning they were expecting I had gotten the letter and signed already and even on Monday they were saying "oh yes expect but expect on Friday".
I am in Automation Industry for now 3 years now, and I can tell all those who are interviewing especially in Detroit Area, ignore this company. It doesn't deserve you, you can find 100s of other great companies in that very area and I did end up working for a company in Detroit Area. But avoid this company as it doesn't value its employees even a bit, as they were totally chill with wasting a guy's time who drove all the way to their company for onsite tour to Michigan. I remember the Manager said to another coworker "he will be potentially joining us and came to see whether we are real company or sham", though he said it jokingly, but the company proved to be a sham.
Do not waste your time with this company.
