Steer clear: they will tell you they're broke (likely to set low expectations of competitive pay), they will ask you how you would solve a problem they themselves are unable to solve and then ghost you when you give them the solution. Definition of shady brain r8p
The average tenure of our engineering team is 8 years. We've achieved that by looking for folks that understand the value they bring, demand to be fairly compensated, and deliver great results. Our CEO does remember the interview above quite well and recounts it quite differently.

Phone call with CEO.
CEO asked what my salary expectations were. I don't rush things on the first date and said so (wanting to figure out if it's the right fit). CEO threw a temper tantrum and started going on about how it's an ADULT thing to do and if he were to go into a store he would want to know the prices of the products on display.
Run away from this company. CEO is purely transactional and is only looking for bargains.
Dodged a bullet. I'm sure the rest of the interview process was one sided (and waste of time) with homework and rounds of interviews.
