Interviews were conducted by phone or text message. The questions dealt more with what the publication could learn about publishing without compensating an expert than with work qualifications. As it turns out, the sole purpose of the interview process in this case is to seek out such free advice. Otherwise, the publication hired me off of the interview, accepted/published my work and failed to pay as contracted.
