Step 1 was to complete their hacker rank type of coding challenge which was all algorithmic. Then, I got an email saying I did very well on it, and they want to schedule a _4 hour onsite interview_ in their Chicago office. Sure, I said. Recruiter, she specifically mentioned that the interview would consist of 3 parts Design, coding, and culture.
When I got to their office, 2 people (1 devs ops, other I don't know) immediately got down to business by showing up with a laptop, keyboard, and mouse and demanded that I do their coding challenge. No intro's, nothing. They also stated that "we have an hour". (red flag #2) I mean, I was told this thing would be 4 hours.
Unfortunately I didn't pass their onsite live coding challenge and they cut the interview short by 3 hours. Total disrespect of me and my time. I would not recommend going forward with these people if you have other interviews like I did. I was lucky enough to have other interviews planned during that same week, so my trip to the city wasn't only for them. Highly not recommended.
They ignored my my requests to reimburse for travel expenses.
This company has proved that they have no respect for their candidates. They completely disregarded the fact that I moved around my schedule (new grad) so I could come into the city to interview for them. Then, they unexpectedly cut the interview by 3 hours. That is unacceptable. If I would have known this, I most likely would have declined to come all the way into the city for a 1 hour coding challenge that could have been done remotely.
