I was interviewed by the Investments Manager of the St Andrews, Scotland branch at RJI and was initially impressed by his professional and relaxed nature. At first, he ran through my CV to set the tone of the interview but then quickly changed the dynamic of the interview by critiquing my application and Covering Letter in greater depth. Specifically he tested my financial, economic and portfolio management knowledge by asking probing questions which, at times, were increasingly difficult to answer. At times I felt that he was asking progressively difficult questions deliberately to observe how I reacted to high pressure. At the time this was an unpleasant experience, yet I understand that he was interviewing in this manner on purpose to test my mettle and ability to cope with quick-fire financial questions.
As a whole, this interview was one of the most difficult I have ever undertaken; but as an experience, it was especially valuable.
