      Candidatura

Ho presentato la mia candidatura online. La procedura ha richiesto 4 settimane. Ho sostenuto un colloquio presso Relay42 (Amsterdam) nel mese di nov 2024

      Colloquio

I applied for the position on their website. They reached out and scheduled a pre-screening call, where we briefly discussed my experience, why I was looking for a new opportunity, and my goals. After that, I had the first interview, where we discussed more about my technical background and they also shared an overview of how working with them would look. I was asked to work on a take-home assignment. After receiving positive feedback and sharing my availability for the next interview, I was again asked by email about my previous work experiences, why I had changed jobs, and why I was looking for another opportunity, where I had even to overshare things to convince them I wasn't a job hopper. The next interview was scheduled where two Senior Engineers interviewed me, and we discussed my approach to the assignment, the technical decisions I made, general questions about the tooling used, etc., on which I received good feedback. Finally, I was interviewed by two other non-technical people, which they called the "Final Interview", which was an unpleasant interview, to say the least, where one of them was extremely unprepared for the interview, and the interview as a whole felt disconnected to the position and the company's way of doing things. I didn't receive an offer because I withdrew from the process after the final interview as I figured the environment wouldn't be a good place to work, even though I had a good impression when talking with the technical people.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with our hiring process. We appreciate all feedback and use it as an opportunity to improve. We’re glad to hear that you had a positive impression of our technical interview process and the team you engaged with. However, we regret that the final interview did not meet your expectations. To address some of your concerns: Career History & Job Changes Understanding a candidate’s career journey is a standard part of our hiring process. We ask about job changes not to be intrusive but to gain insight into career motivations, professional growth, and long-term alignment. We understand that personal reasons for career moves can be sensitive, and we never ask candidates to disclose personal matters. We’re sorry if our questions felt repetitive, but our intent was to better understand your professional trajectory. Stakeholder Management & Working with Product Teams At Relay42, software engineers work closely with product teams and often collaborate with stakeholders across the business. As a company that values ownership and cross-functional collaboration, understanding how candidates navigate stakeholder interactions is an essential part of our evaluation. These are not random questions but rather key aspects of working effectively in our environment. Approach to Challenges Every role at Relay42—especially in a fast-moving, mid-sized company—requires problem-solving, adaptability, and the ability to handle challenges. We ask these questions to understand how candidates think, adapt, and contribute to a dynamic environment. These skills are critical in a developer role, as they go beyond writing code and extend to solving real-world business problems. Final Interview Structure Our cultural interview is meant to be a conversation about working styles, team dynamics, and mutual expectations. While we strive to keep it structured and engaging, we regret that this session didn’t meet your expectations. We appreciate your feedback and will continue to refine this part of our process. We understand that not every process is the right fit for every candidate, and we respect your decision. We appreciate the time you invested in our interviews and your thoughtful feedback. We wish you all the best in your career and thank you for engaging with Relay42.
