A phone interview with general HR questions followed by an assessment on basic programming knowledge over video call. They give you a week to prepare for the assessment. Total time for the entire process is about 2-3 weeks. The assessment is so easy that I bet a HS graduate with a week of studying a little could do it. I am a Master's Computer Science graduate with multiple high-level research projects under my belt. I decided to see what Revature is about after an HR rep contacted me a few weeks after I graduated. They did not disclose the pay in the beginning. The extremely easy assessment and the HR rep's congratulations saying that only about 1/3 of applicants pass that assessment clued me in that the pay would be measly. I asked about the pay. I was right. You will be getting slightly above minimum wage while training for 10 weeks. Then, you're contracted for 2 years at 40K if you only have a Bachelor's or 50K if you have a Master's. You MUST work for them for 2 years or else you pay a penalty. You also have NO CHOICE which client you work for. You will likely need to move across the country. Whether or not you get normal benefits like healthcare or a standard amount paid time off was not clear, but it seemed like you wouldn't get many or any benefits. It was also not clear if you would be paid for overtime. Considering how much bad there is in this deal, I'm guessing no, you won't. The HR rep will explain this when asked, but they will hype it up and make it sound not as bad. Revature is a waste of time and money. You're better off figuring out who their clients are and applying directly instead of getting paid way below what you're worth while Revature gets paid part of what you're actually worth for headhunting you. Also, the HR rep got snippy with me (still professional, just quite cold) when I pushed back on the pay as I declined their offer. FYI, a Bachelor in CS grad should be getting 65-70K to start. A Master in CS should be getting 75-85K to start. You are worth more than 40-50K. Shortly after declining Revature, I got another offer for 84K. My instinct and research was right. The ONLY time Revature is OK is if (1) you don't have a degree in CS, (2) you never programmed anything in your life, or (3) you're extremely desperate and do not think you can find a better job in 2 years. The bootcamp videos they showed me prior to the assessment seemed fine. You can find similar quality on Udemy or some YouTube videos. And you can get 40-50K by getting the CompTIA A+ certificate and become an IT desk person. You can work your way up from there to software developer if that's your goal and you need experience. Tl;dr: you are worth more than Revature is paying you. You can absolutely find better. Revature is a LAST CHOICE. Hope this helps.
