      Candidatura

Ho presentato la mia candidatura tramite l'università. La procedura ha richiesto 3 settimane. Ho sostenuto un colloquio presso RevolutionParts (Scottsdale, AZ) nel mese di dic 2017

      Colloquio

The interview process looked like this for me: recruiter emailed me for an interview -> behavioral interview with her over the phone -> somewhat technical interview with the CEO -> technical interview with a software engineer. I enjoyed how fast I got to hear back from each interview and how fast things moved in general. My first two interviews with the recruiter and CEO were pretty decent too. During those two interviews, I was given information about the company being fast paced, casual, and updated on the newest tech. However, my last interview was a bit of a train wreck. I did admittedly make a lot of mistakes out of nervousness and took way too long to code the easier than Leetcode easy problem but that does not excuse the behavior of my interviewer. I'm not exactly sure what was going on with him but he was either spacing out during my interview or just really really liked to mansplain. When I was coding out my solution I ran into a compilation error & when I solved the error and announced that I solved it, he literally just completely ignored my announcement and repeated my solution to me. Um okay? And then nearing the end of my interview when I told him I finished coding my solution and passed all test cases, he completely ignored me and everything was silent for about a minute before he told me that oh look, I passed all the test cases. Keep in mind that he definitely did not tell me this in agreement but rather as if he was the one that first saw I got my code to work even though I literally told him a minute ago I finished. Most frustrating thing ever. If you're going to interview with someone, pay attention to them. Is that really such a difficult concept to grasp? Also, one last thing about him...I feel like he didn't read my resume at all. He asked me if I knew how to program in Javascript when Javascript is mentioned like twice on my resume & pretty much implied because I explained to him I had 2 prior internships being a web dev but knowing him he was probably zoned out when I was explaining this to him :) Overall this company seems like a decent place to work for if you don't consider the rudeness of some of their employees + the fact they have no female software engineers on their software engineer team + my theory that there are no female software engineers in their 12 person SE team because they mansplain them all away. 18% of CS majors are women, which is pretty bad but not really bad enough to result in 0 female software engineers out of 12. I do think there's an underlying issue they need to look into.

I'm sorry you had this experience. We strive to give every candidate a professional & good experience, and it's never our intention to come across this way. We have taken the feedback to improve how we conduct interviews. Your experience does not reflect our culture or values. Regarding your second point, it is highly competitive to find great engineers, especially in the Phoenix area, but we are making a bigger effort to have a more diverse pipeline of candidates.

3 interviews, first with recruiter, second with Engineering, 3rd technical. Ask about your employment background and 3 things that make you stand out as a candidate. First two are mainly soft skills and personality.

First I was asked to describe what goes on in the background as you browse a website like amazon. Question about MVC. Then I was asked to write a function that decides if a string is a palindrome. Then spaces and uppercase characters are added to make the question more difficult. All in PHP. I was allowed to browse internet for syntax. At end I was asked if I could improve my answer to be more efficient.
