As a former Rutgers graduate I was very disappointed how things turned out. I received a phone call from a secretary telling me I was chosen to come in for an in-person interview and was told to prepare a 10 min powerpoint presentation on Rutgers to perform in front of a panel. The interview lasted roughly an hour in front of a 3 person panel.
I was told a decision would be made in 2 weeks. After hearing nothing for 2 weeks, I sent a friendly email to the interviewer reiterating my interest in the position and asked for a decision timeline. I didn't receive a response so about 2 weeks later I phone called the interviewer to which I was told it was a busy time for the Admissions Department but none the less I was still a candiate and that a decision would be made within a couple of weeks. After hearing nothing for another 2 weeks, I followed up with another email to check in on the decision timeline and received no response. I wound up sending another email about 3 weeks later as one final effort to demonstrate my interest in the position, but to no surprised, I received no response.
As a former student, I was upset to see how Rutgers treats their potential employees. You would think after seeing all the effort I put into that 10 min presentation, being persistent in my follow-up, and giving them money through my four years of education, I would atleast receive a courtsey response saying I didn't get the job. I completely understand if I wasn't the man for the job, but atleast notify me with a response when I am contacting you regarding my candidacy.
