      Colloquio per General Counsel

      Candidatura

Ho presentato la mia candidatura online. La procedura ha richiesto più di una settimana. Ho sostenuto un colloquio presso Scuf Gaming (Suwanee, GA) nel mese di lug 2018

      Colloquio

I applied for the General Counsel position at SCUF Gaming in early July 2018 through the company's website. The application form was fairly typical (my general background information, attach resume, what are your salary expectations, etc.). The position required four (4) years of experience; I have twelve (12) years of experience. Four (4) days later, I receive an e-mail from the company's HR representative requesting a telephone interview. What was disconcerting was that the e-mail was sent to me at 2 A.M. ON A SUNDAY. Obviously, this was very odd, but given that the position was for a relatively young gaming company, I assumed atypical hours might be a norm for some of its employees. I accepted the interview invitation (around noon that same Sunday) and suggested we speak during a block of time the following afternoon -- Monday afternoon. I never received any further communication or confirmation from SCUF that Sunday. On Monday, I received an e-mail from the company's HR representative DURING the time I suggested we talk, stating that she was "booked solid" that day. We rescheduled the interview for later in the week. The interview itself was bizarre to say the least. When the HR representative finally called me at the rescheduled time several days later, she was clearly ill-prepared for the conversation. To be frank, she sounded like she was high. Her first question for me was: "Sooooooooooo . . . . . . you applied . . . . . for the . . . . . . the General . . . . . General Counsel position. . . . . . right?" Her only two (2) other questions were: "Have you negotiated contracts before?" and "What's your IP experience?" I answered both questions with relative ease (See Interview Questions w/ Answers below). Once I realized that she did not have any additional questions, I proceeded to highlight parts of my resume and background which aligned with the company's needs per the job description (most of which surprised her, though it was in my resume). Towards the end of the conversation (which lasted ten (10) minutes, if that) and after some prompting from me, the HR representative finally began to perk up and asked me one or two super-generic HR questions (What type of organization do you like to work in? What's your work style?). As the interview wrapped up, I asked: 1) How many applications did she receive for the position; 2) How many people was she screening and 3) What was the process moving forward? I was told: 1) SCUF received between 100 and 150 applications (I'm skeptical of this as the job was only just posted); 2) she was interviewing 10 - 15 of those applicants (or the first 10 -15 submissions?) and 3) that her notes would be forwarded to SCUF's CFO for review and that callbacks would occur within a week or so. I e-mailed the HR representative a week after our teleconference asking about the status of the position and then again several days after that. She has yet to respond to either e-mail. I cannot stress the general strangeness of the "interview"; mostly due to the interviewer's lethargicness and general disengagement. To be clear, she wasn't intimidated to interview a lawyer and she wasn't inexperienced (her linkedin profile says she's been a recruiter for over ten (10+) years). She just didn't seem to be *there*.
