Informal, one-on-one interview with hiring manager after phone screen with recruiter from staffing agency and HR department representative. The hiring manager was unavailable for the in person interview so another HR representative conducted the in person interview and it was simple, only a few questions were asked because more of the screening was done by the staffing agency. The interview felt informal and the purpose was more about getting a feel for my personality and whether I would work well with the department and current staff personalities. The role would have multiple responsibilities to support multiple members of the HR department as well as assisting the HR Director with special capital projects. Growth opportunities were not initially described as this was a temp to hire position, there could be changes and openings in other departments that I qualify for and could apply for once starting in the role.

Sterile and depressing. I interviewed with the head of HR (or administration) and a few other people. I think a couple of them were finance managers. I had 2 interviews. When asked if I had questions, I asked how the culture was. One guy said - after taking a long sigh - that the culture was very formal, everyone wore suits and ties and that I would NOT be working anywhere close to the CEO. He seemed to enjoy the fact that I would not interact with the big cheese (no WI pun intended). Overall, he made the place sound depressing. Another guy probed about my marital status and he did in a very sneaky way to bypass directly asking me a question that was illegal. When he asked about some experiences I had working overseas he said - "You must have not had a family." Not thinking, I said "no." I thought that was a rather dubious way to ask me if I was married. Overall, I am glad things did not work out with this company.
