Was interviewed by one of the agents. She was a few minutes late. Once she came online she sat slouched and it seemed like she was in her sleeping gown of sorts. The interview started with her saying she will ask me personal questions now and launched right into it without asking whether that would be OK with me. No "how are you" etc. I answered as best I could until she asked my current salary/payslip. I told her that my expected pay range is as advertised for the position and would like to discuss that more if possible. She ignored my question flat out and once again asked me what I am earning currently. I told her that my current earnings has nothing to do with the opportunity at hand as the job requirements, level of stress and relocation all plays a roll. Also, the employer indicated the salary range they are willing to pay. Why would the agent then require my current earnings? She once again asked for my current salary figure - I got frustrated and asked her straight out why she's ignoring my questions and/or statements. She replied "why would a company pay you more if you are earning less at the moment?". I then confirmed with her that the only reason she wants my current payslip is so that the company can lowball me and not pay market related. Visibly frustrated she decided to cut the interview short and requested I send her my documentation (degrees etc). I sent her my documents and noted in the email how uncomfortable it was for her to keep asking me about my current salary even though I have given ample reason not to disclose this. I also said that I will be more than happy to take my current salary with me to the interview and then convince the panel why I am worth them paying me THEIR SALARY RANGE THEY ALREADY DISCLOSED IN THE JOB ADVERT. The agent emailed me back stating I did not cooperate with her and she will not be shortlisting me for the position anymore. As many South Africans have done I emailed back wishing her well in her endeavors to find a candidate more malleable to her clients' requests.
