Colloquio per Mechanical Design Engineer, Production (Starlink)

      Candidatura

Ho presentato la mia candidatura online. Ho sostenuto un colloquio presso SpaceX (Redmond, WA) nel mese di mag 2026

      Colloquio

It was pretty straightforward. The recruiter was very friendly and encouraging, and the engineer was very direct and maintained the interview flow nicely. Everything was scheduled on time. There was no rescheduling, which is always nice. The questions they asked in the recruiter call were the precursors to the questions they asked in the engineering call, and I wish I realized this.

      Domande di colloquio [1]

      Domanda 1

Questions from call with recruiter: Where is the maximum stress from torsion on a cantilever beam? Why is designing hardware for space hard? How to change rotation to linear motion? Why SpaceX? What are modes of failures for structures? Describe what you can learn from a stress-strain curve? Questions from call with engineer on team: Elevator operated by a rack and pinion, and power cuts to motor. How could you stop the elevator from dropping straight downwards? If there is a shaft that acts as a cantilever beam and there is torsion and bending stress, where would you put the bearings? What type of bearings would you use? How would you analytically solve for fatigue if shaft has torsion and radial point load acting on it? Would you go back to your old company? Why should we choose you? I said I am curious, and he asked for specific examples of how I am curious.
