I was contacted via email after being recommended by a SpaceX employee and encouraged to submit an application. I didn't hear back, so I emailed the recruiter who contacted me and was immediately scheduled for a phone interview. I had two interviews over the phone, about 45 minutes each with two different people in the avionics hardware department, and got an offer a day or two after the second interview.
