I had a follow up email after applying, then a phone call with the recruiter to discuss the role, the team structure, the interview process, and my background and experience as it relates to the role.

Applied online (spent 2 days on the application materials) and heard back from the hiring coordinator after about a month. I'd already started another role by then, so my available times were more limited. Generally I had to keep pinging them to follow-up, but once I did, I always heard back from someone. Spoke with 3 people, including the hiring manager and 2 talent recruitment people. First was a 30-minute call to screen me and answer my own questions. Second was a 2-hour skills test. Third was a review of that same skills test a week later. On following up after that call a week later, I was informed by the human resources people that they decided not to move forward. Everything overall was fine, and I could tell that the person who I would have been working under was bright and engaged. I was, however, disappointed that every person except the hiring manager spelled my name wrong, and the human resources team did this even after I politely corrected them, as well as copying and pasting poorly so that my initial "preparation" message was confusing and cut off in the middle of sentences. When I asked for clarification, the human resources person was nice and gave me a soothing answer, but didn't acknowledge that the prior message was nonsense. That seemed a little weird and left me with an odd feeling, but it's probably just a symptom of rushing through so many candidates. Overall, would interview again.
