      Colloquio per Editorial Assistant

      Candidatura

Ho presentato la mia candidatura online. La procedura ha richiesto 2 mesi. Ho sostenuto un colloquio presso Springer Nature

      Colloquio

Very negative and chaotic experience. I had three rounds of interviews: first, a call with an HR representative; then, two rounds of position-specific interviews. Some major issues with this process: 1) The salary was not advertised up front, but HR told me the salary band, which was very low for even an entry-level academic publishing position in the location (with in-person work required). I was told that a salary request over the minimum in that band was unlikely to be honoured, even though I had relevant experience. 2) Aside from this salary information and some very limited information about benefits, the initial HR call seemed to be a waste of everyone's time. The HR representative could not answer most of my questions about the position and asked me questions that I had either already answered in my application or that I was asked again later in the interview process (sometimes multiple times). 3) In the subsequent interviews, the team supervisor was unable to describe any way in which career development would be supported or encouraged for someone in this role. 4) The job description, in retrospect, was very poorly written, to the point that I was surprised to learn several key elements of the role during the first position-specific interview. 5) There were multiple logistical and communication issues with the Resourcing department. After confirming times at which I would be available for each interview about a week in advance, I had to follow up around 24 hours before the interview date to remind them to confirm a time. This happened with both of the position-specific interviews. For the final interview, there was supposed to be a skills task, but this was sent to me less than 24 hours before the interview time. Then I received another email from the Resourcing staff telling me that no one would be requested to complete the task, as it was sent too late. But at the interview, I was asked why I hadn't completed it. Fortunately I received and accepted another offer immediately afterwards, as I've no idea if the hiring team actually received the task (which I did ultimately complete). After three interviews and the botched skills task, no one bothered to follow up with me at all. I'm assuming that the position was offered to someone else, but at this point I just feel that I dodged a bullet and haven't been interested to find out.

A typical day in 2021 is very different to 2015. Currently we work from home and it's all instant messaging and virtual meetings but we're good at keeping in touch and have all the tools we need to do our job. When the Kings Cross office is open, we have good facilities and the people are nice. It's a global company so you my spend all your time talking with people remotely but there is a staff canteen and coffee shop so that you can also socialise with colleagues based in London.

Initial phone call with the recruiter, basic questions eg why are you interested in springer, my background. Then had a first interview in the London office with lots of STAR questions - the 2 interviewers were very nice but the interview did just feel like a long list of questions
