      Colloquio

I interviewed with a supposed marketing firm called Stinger Management for an Entry Level Account Executive position I saw advertised on CareerBuilder. I did a 20-minute Zoom interview with one of their “junior directors” and was called for an in-person interview the next day. I was a bit surprised that I wasn't asked more specific questions about my skillset and experience, but I brushed it off and went to the in-person interview the next day. Their office was unusually small and nondescript, which I found strange considering they claimed to be a successful, rapidly growing marketing firm for Fortune 500 companies. Upon entering the office, I was asked which company I was interviewing for. I thought this was a strange question. I checked online, and I discovered that their small office was shared with other direct sales companies such as Atlas Marketing, Battle Marketing, Delagroup Marketing, and Wave Tech LA. The same interviewer from the Zoom call described the job as a direct sales position for internet services that would require daily travel to dangerous neighborhoods, which he framed as "educational field work to help the underprivileged". I was alarmed by this, considering the job description framed it more as an office job. The job title was also misleading. I think "Entry Level Traveling Sales Representative" is a much more accurate job title than "Entry Level Account Executive." In hindsight, the entire interview felt more like a cringey motivational speech. The interviewer also claimed that he was making hundreds of dollars a week, and the people who were struggling just had a "negative mindset" because their system guarantees success. He also described himself as a "warrior of positivity" who was going to retire his parents one day. I smiled when he said this, but in my mind I was like, "OK...When can we go back to talking about the specifics of the job?" When the interview was over, he said that they had other candidates to interview for that position, but he wanted me to meet the CEO because I got the job, which I found a really odd. Why weren't they going to make a decision upon reviewing every candidate's interview responses? Doesn't the whole process of candidate selection take more time? I told the CEO that I needed a few days to think about accepting the job offer. In response, she said "Why do you need so much time? What's wrong?" and looked at me like I had insulted her. I was baffled by her response, since a new job is a big deal and a few days to think about accepting it is fair. I was assertive yet civil and said, "Nothing is wrong. Everyone was friendly. But I need time to think." Thank God my mom discouraged me from taking this position. I ended up withdrawing my application. This was probably the strangest interview I've had in my life. I got weird vibes from the company overall.

As weird as you can ever imagine, it's a 15-minute interview and mainly was the CEO promising you a lot of stuff and asking you if you are okay with it. This is 100% a scam.
