My first interview was a 30 minute get to know and technical assessment with the recruiter. He told me all about the company, a sentence about the actual role I was interviewing for, asked me a list of yes or no questions, and then we jumped straight into a live technical assessment. Up until now, my prior experience with live assessments like these has always been with an engineer and was meant to see how I might collaborate with a team and solve problems. While it wasn't a challenging prompt, this assessment was very uncomfortable as the recruiter barely spoke or responded to anything I said and I'm still unsure whether the expectation was that I was supposed to silently solve the problem or whether he wanted me to talk through my process. There was no time for me to ask questions about the role at all. I walked away with no real information about the role and a pretty bad first impression. After the interview, I never heard from them again, despite follow-up.
