Fairly standard. Screening round was with a recruiter, just making sure that I truly met the requirements and I understood the position. First true round was with the hiring manager. She was very pleasant. Interview style was very relaxed. Some behavioral-based questions, but mostly generalized conversation about my background. Next round was with a peer from the tech team and the LPM whom I was replacing. Mostly behavioral-based questions getting a feel for my personality fitting in the team dynamic and probing for how I would handle problems. After that I was informed I would hear back in a couple weeks about their final decision. I did not hear anything and sent an email to check in with the recruiter and expressing my continued interest in the position. The recruiter got right back saying they had not been able to make a final decision before the holidays and they would get back to me after the New Year. I had not heard anything a couple of weeks into January so I sent another follow up email to the recruiter. He once again responded right away. This time he let me know that they had made the decision "to place the position on hold," but that if they opened it up he would contact me with next steps.
While the final outcome was extremely frustrating, the overall process was a positive one. I got to meet the people I would have been working for/with, I got a great understanding of the work I would have been doing and its challenges, and I feel I got to express myself and my capabilities to them without any unnecessary hoops or circus stunts that I've experienced in other interview processes at other companies lately. It all makes the final outcome sting just a little more.
