      Colloquio per Web Programmer

      Candidatura

Ho presentato la mia candidatura tramite un selezionatore. La procedura ha richiesto un giorno. Ho sostenuto un colloquio presso Supply Insight Inc (Newington, CT) nel mese di ott 2008

      Colloquio

Overall, this was a very unpleasant interview and I had a bad vibe. I interviewed off site at a recruiting agency instead of their office, which was questionable. The Tech Lead who interviewed me started off by telling a little about his company and that he was only there for about a month. It was a start-up company that did not work out so someone from another country in Europe bought the company and they restarted again and they need more programmers but does not have a lot of financial resources/funds. He emphasized lack of money and workers working overtime to do what they need to do to finish the job. There's only about 5-7 workers, some being off shore and only the Tech Lead and one other "Chinese" guy, as he described him, who was a programmer. They rented a house where his workers work, so it's not in an office building. His first question was guessing my nationality and told me he was wondering because he showed name to the Chinese coworker who said that it was not a Chinese name. Technically that was illegal but I answered anyways and I felt so uncomfortable that I didn't even tell the recruiter. The interviewer seemed to be dissatisfied in even interviewing with me and seemed very impatient with me because he kept repeating himself raising his tone, asking the same exact questions over after I answered him, and after that whole ordeal, he dismissed me. Before the interview, I was given the company name, and since I knew I was not coming to the office, I had to know why by doing my own research. I found possible locations and google mapped the location to take a look at the building. It seemed like it was a decent residential neighborhood and the house does not look bad. Other than that, there was nothing that would have prepared me for this very odd interview. Economy is pretty bad, if you're desperate for work, want to work extra hours, don't mind working in a house instead of an office with minimal workers and coworker assistance, then this would be a good environment for you. But my overall impression was unpleasant.. and honestly it seemed like it would not be fun to work with this particular individual as he did not seem fond of me from the start. But it could be different for you. I also passed off his question of my nationality as a curiosity question, but it still was not appropriate, especially it being the first question. It almost reminded me of another job interview where the interviewer asked where I was from, where my parents from, and where are my family are now, but not as bad because Supply Insight actually asked relevent questions after wards. FYI, I was born in the United States. I would recommend meeting the other coworkers onsite to see what you're getting into because there's a possibility that they may be more pleasant.
