The interview process was conducted in a highly professional manner and took place at the branch to which I would be expected to commute. The interview panel consisted of the hiring manager, who would be my line manager if successful, and a member of the Human Resources team. This structure was consistent for all candidates.
The interview began with questions designed to assess my cultural alignment with the Bank. These focused on core values and ways of working, including my risk appetite in lending decisions and my approach to building and maintaining relationships with vulnerable customers.
The interview then progressed into a competency-based format. Questions were primarily scenario-focused and invited me to describe real examples from my experience, such as occasions where I had successfully built relationships to identify and develop new business opportunities. This section explored key competencies required for the role, including relationship management, embracing technological change, business development, and overall suitability for the position.
Throughout the interview, the panel created a welcoming and supportive environment, which made me feel at ease. Ample time was also provided at the end of the interview for me to ask questions about the role, the team, and the wider Bank, allowing for an open and well-rounded discussion.
