In addition to the interview questions, I was asked to complete a practical assessment using real financial documents, including extracts from the general ledger and a payment run spreadsheet. I was asked to analyse the information as I would in the role itself. I found this approach very effective and insightful, as it gave the prospective manager a realistic understanding of my analytical skills and working style. Equally, the feedback session that followed helped me gain a clear understanding of the manager's expectations, management style, and what success in the role would look like.
