Screening interview with hiring manager. Takehome assignment of moderate difficulty, more about implementing proper design patterns than solving a leetcode-style problem. 'Chat' with one of the founders - this is actually an interview but they don't explicitly tell you this. I was asked some in-depth technical questions and the answers you provide will be a major factor in the hire/no-hire decision. This seemed fairly manipulative and disingenuous from my perspective, some minor confusion about the question and my subpar answer gave the founder what he perceived to be justification to provide a lowball offer because in his words 'it shows you're not senior enough for this position'. Ultimately, I would avoid this company. These types of interview practices are pretty shady and it doesn't reflect well on the company.
