Overall the experience was very convoluted and the communication beyond poor.
Each time I emailed the business prior to the initial interview I received no response. Even when asked to produce a presentation, there was no response to say it was received. When I arrived at my interview, the presentation was up on the projector screen in the office.
My initial interview was conducted by 2 members of staff who had been at the business less than 12 months and were half way through their notice period to leave, I found this a bit unprofessional and also quite unhelpful as there was no experienced member of staff or person on the hiring team who would be present during my employment, It felt as if I couldn't get a true honest answer to questions about the business, especially in regard to long term employment and opportunities.
Second interview was okay and interviewer was nice and accommodating upon arrival. Although it was billed as a 'casual chat' it was more of a talking to for nearly 2 hours where I could barely get a word in.
Additionally, both interviewers in both interviews were 20 minutes late. I feel it's fair to point out this as they request you arrive fairly early for the interview due to security and are still significantly late for both interviews.
After the interview, I had a follow up call with another member of staff from the HR team, who was very nice.
After 3 weeks from this point, I had not been informed of a decision as to whether I would be offered the role. I had no written communication from the hiring manager prior, so could not follow up directly. I called the member of staff from the HR team who had previously followed up my second interview and was told 'they let all candidates know last week'. Within 5 minutes I received the rejection email.
I filled out all of the information for feedback on my interview process, which was ignored. I followed this up once more and was once again ignored.
I feel that considering this was a job for the comms department, the communication is shocking. And overall I don't feel that my application was taken completely seriously even though it went through 2 stages of interview.
Based on my experience, I certainly feel dissuaded to apply for future roles within Tata Steel.
