I was asked to design StackOverflow with focus on User Registration, Posting Questions and Answers and Comments on either. Designed all the APIs with mock JSON request and response objects. High Level Design Diagram and then added various layers like caching and loadblancers at appropriate places Discussed about SQL and NoSql DB choices and various caching methods along with different types of out-of-the-box caching solutions. I used Redis. Discussed sharding and replication strategies and their implications on throughput and latency. Fairly standard stuff which is common in any system design interview. 3. Leadership round with one more Head of Engineering Discussed my 11 years of software journey...when I graduated..why I left jobs... The interviewer seemed biased towards people who stay at the same company for a very long time..just an observation What is my weakness and why I'd want to join Tesco I feel thi round should be the first round, it can save a lot of time for their own engineering team... for me it was a fun practice session. I was also happy to see when companies try to ensure that they hire good leaders not just programmers. +1 to Tesco for that. All the interviewers seemed very nice and learned and I was very happy with the interactions.
