I was referred to Home Depot through an IT staffing agency for a Junior Software Engineer with an emphasis on Java position at Home Depot's Marietta office on their Supply Chain team. The recruiters forwarded my resume to the hiring manager on their team after being given basic OOP questions and questions related to Java such as Garbage Collection and Multithreading and behavioral questions from the IT staffing company. I was then given an onsite interview and preparation from the IT staffing company with the expectation of first interviewing with the hiring manager and then two senior software engineers. Unfortunately, the hiring manager was stuck in meetings and was unable to meet with me and so I was interviewed only by the senior software engineers. The Home Depot software engineers asked me standard questions about my background and technical experience and asked me to do a whiteboarding question that I was comfortable with. I was then allowed to ask questions and they were very pleasant throughout the entire experience. Unfortunately, I was not given the position after being explained that due to budgeting concerns, they wouldn't be able to let me on the team with fears of being unable to pay me. I was very disappointed to hear this as I thought the software engineers I've met were quite enjoyable to talk to and the pay rate stated by the IT staffing company was very uncompetitive (I pursued this offer more for the experience and Home Depot's reputation of valuing its employees). I began this process on December 6th, had my Home Depot interview December 16th, and heard back January 2nd with Home Depot's decision from the IT staffing company.

Got contacted by a recruiter on linkedin. The recruiter was not a good communicator, but he was not directly associated with Home Depot. I did a phone interview about my work background and technical questions. Then I did an in office interview- pair programming with a developer, then an interview with a manager.

The phone screen was very relaxed, and the technical assessment was fair and relevant to the position I was applying for. No purely academic or needlessly obtuse questions meant to weed you our or mindlessly imitate Goog-Face-Azon.
