I applied online. And my previous adviser recommended me to my current adviser. After I passed the screen of the university (they will check GPA, Tofel, GRE, etc.), I got one phone call interview since I am an international student. Then I got the offer.

The interview lasted around 30 minutes and was focused primarily on assessing my Python proficiency, as the role involved working extensively with parsing and analyzing data from Python files. The questions were straightforward and revolved around core Python concepts such as file handling, working with dictionaries and lists, string manipulation, and basic object-oriented programming. I was also asked about how I would approach extracting structured information from unstructured or semi-structured text within code files. Overall, the discussion was more conversational than technical, aimed at understanding my comfort level with Python and my thought process when working with real-world data extraction tasks.

The interview process is quite non-technical and mostly behavioural. It's quite informal. The interviews are very job specific, so your resume has already done half the interviewing for you. I was sent a link to a data science project and was asked to model blood pressure from other patient health records. Had a bout 2 days to submit. Was selected based on my submission.

The interview process is not really too complicated. I would say it is pretty straightforward in terms of what kind of questions the interviewer is asking. Should not be longer than 30 minutes.
