      Colloquio

First screening call with a recruiter -- billed as an informal chat, but this was actually a series of scripted questions about the job and what I thought a person in that role is supposed to do. I was underprepared for this initial screening call and should have reviewed the position description before going into the call. Every company does something a little different with a BA, so I was hoping to get more information about what the BA does at ThoughtWorks, instead I was supposed to know what they do and tell them. Second screening call with a person in the position you're applying for -- asked questions about my experience / background in the types of things the role would be doing. I felt much more comfortable with this screening call as I was able to "talk shop" about my experience, and ask questions about what it was like to work at ThoughtWorks. After this point, I was not asked directly about my experience again. "What you did" gets you to the in-person interview where you will be asked to demonstrate "what you can do". In-person interviews. I had mine all scheduled for the same day. Not sure if this is typical. In advance of the interview I was asked to: - fill out a "Predictive Index Survey" (aka personality test). It's two pages, and you just select a bunch of words you think other people want you to be; and then a bunch of words you think you are. If you do a web search for the ThoughtWorks interview process you will see some people have posted their results. I was never given mine; nor was it referenced later in the interview process. - research a social justice problem that was of interest to me; find 3-5 sources of information about the problem, and be prepared to discuss it. First in-person interview: you are given 10 minutes to read over a 1/2 page case study and prepare questions about it. This will be related to the role you are applying for. Mine was helping a small business streamline their existing practices. It doesn't really matter what the example is though. What you need to do is demonstrate (through role playing -- the TW interviewers will pretend to be the client -- mine were GREAT) what you would do with the client in a 45 minute consultation. Before they get into character, see if you can establish what is expected of you. Use the whiteboard even if your hand writing is horrible. Use existing frameworks to help them solve the problem (in my case SWOT, or Business Canvas Model, or something like that). Fortunately I ended "early" and was able to use the opportunity to ask questions about the company regarding pay bands and advancement. Second in-person interview: This is the "social justice" interview. You will be asked about how you selected the 3-5 URLs and you will be asked about bias. Be as prepared to talk about your research methodology as well as the issue itself. There is then the opportunity for a 30 minute break. You can opt to take this break, or end early. Finally there are two IQ-type tests. The first is words / math / matching with multiple choice answers. You will have 12 minutes to complete 50ish questions. You will be asked your age for this test and if you have any learning disabilities. The second is flowchart logic puzzles. You will have an hour to complete 10ish questions. I withdrew my name from application. Some key considerations for me: - KPIs are not used internally / unclear process on how promotions work. - Although the company focuses on social justice as part of the interview process, the clients are not primarily NFP / social justice clients. ThoughtWorkers are not able to veto if they do not want to work for a particular client (consideration is given, but the ultimate decision rests with ThoughtWorks). - It is up to each staff person to develop their own support network within the company. No identified support structure is provided (e.g. regular meetups / conversations with other people in the same role as yourself). Staff at ThoughtWorks who I spoke with definitely love their jobs. If you are interested in consulting + travelling to on-sites with clients, I definitely recommend looking into applying. It just wasn't a good fit for _me_.

How do you deal with bias? (re. selecting URLs for the research of your social justice problem)

2 rounds of interview - one of them would be case study. Mostly on previous experience and scenario based questions. Case study round would be more of actual BA roleplay

Great interview experience. Quick responses, feedback was given timely after each stage. The interviews itself were very engaging, very smart and prepared people, asking challenging but fair questions. I loved the cultural interview.

When are you done with a requirement? Tell us some examples. What, in your opinion, are the essential practices for the success of a team? What would be the signs that a team is not healthy? Tells us a case that you got on a team that did not do essential practices and you had to make it happen. ...many more

4 rounds - 1 with HR, 1 technical assessment (conversation where they assess your BA theoretical + situational knowledge), 1 case study, and 1 cultural and leadership interview. The entire process took about 1 month. Overall a fantastic experience; one of the most enjoyable interview experiences I've had. Next steps were always clear and came quickly (within 1 to 2 days), so you never really have to be in limbo for long. Interviewers were also very genuine and kind - they really want to get to know you and assess your fit for the company. They're also very helpful with answering any questions you may have, which really helps in understanding whether Thoughtworks is right for you.
