      Colloquio

First Interviewed with CUNA Mutual 2 years ago. Was introduced through a Recruiter. Then I had a Interview with an internal HR recruiter. The phone meeting lasted 40 minutes in which case I was asked about my qualifications and real life industry experience. Was told I was the top candidate for the position then it was on to the next step 2 weeks later to interview with the Hiring Manger. That meeting lasted about an hour and required me to do a live power-point presentation. Passed that step and was told that I would have to meet with CUNA execs at Ohare airport for a live board room power-point presentation. The meeting took place 2 weeks later in which case I did a power-point to the actual board of CUNA mutual. 2 weeks later received a form letter that stated they were hiring internally. Was told by recruiter that they wanted to give an inexperienced internal wholesaler the job to "diversify the sales force." Fast forward 2 years. Not surprisingly I saw the position open up again and applied. Fit all criteria (perfect match for job description). Got form letter back 2 days later stating they were pursuing candidates that better fit their needs. No worries moved on..... However.... 2 weeks later got call from internal CUNA headhunter telling me that they accidentally sent me the form letter, that I was perfect for the opening and that I should apply. Amazingly was told by the recruiter that my resume was never even read and purged from the system but that they had some of my info from the online application I filled out. Reluctantly agreed to go through the process with CUNA again.. Next day did a formal interview with HR that lasted an hour. The questions included best client experience and name a time when you went above and beyond at a job? Was again told that I was the perfect candidate and front runner out of three. Was told to fill out a background check online that took an hour next day. Filled out and waited response. Received this very impersonal form letter the next day. "It was a pleasure speaking with you about the Executive Benefits Specialist, Regional position within our organization. Taking into account our applicants and their qualifications, we have decided to pursue other candidates that more closely match the needs of this position. Please be assured that we will retain your information and will be happy to consider your qualifications, upon your request, as other opportunities within the organization develop. We wish you much success in your future endeavors and invite you to explore our careers page, www.cunamutual.jobs, for new opportunities. Once again, thank you for your interest in our organization. Sincerely, Human Resources CUNA Mutual Group" Since HR already admitted that their system sends these letters out by mistake sometimes I called my internal CUNA contact to see if this was for real. The contact said yes the form letter was real apologized for putting me through the motions and that they had me, in essence, waste my time because the hiring manager who I met with 2 years earlier wanted to hire a former colleague and needed some qualified candidates for filler. In my opinion that was bad business and a reason why CUNA will never get a 3rd opportunity to waste my time. A very unprofessional hiring process in my opinion.
