It started with a brief standard phone screen with a recruiter who has been with Tyler for many years, which lead to being invited to video interview with the hiring manager and a couple team members for about an hour. An offer was extended to me a few days later, but the salary was almost 10% lower than what the recruiter mentioned at the beginning of the interview process for someone with my level of work experience. I made a counter-offer asking for that salary number, but it was promptly and definitively rejected. After that point the recruiter's attitude changed significantly, from warm and responsive, to terse and ultimately ghosting.
It was a shame, as the hiring manager, their team, and the work they were doing seemed great all-around. I also understand that your average recruiter is handling hundreds of applicants. However, the recruiter left a very bad taste in my mouth. It came down to them not keeping their professional word on a couple of topics, an inexcusable characterisic regardless of workload. I’m not sure I’d spend the time applying for another role at Tyler down the road after this very poor first impression.
