Lengthy process--takes several months to a year. You meet with an Air Force nurse recruiter and he/she will have you fill out a ton of paperwork. When you finally get to the interview, it will be with the Chief Nurse of a med group at a local base. Once the decision is made, you get signed up for Officer Training School and go from there. Do not expect to be paid during training. You may get back pay once you get to your permanent base.

Meet with a chief nurse at the nearest Air Force Base and he/she will ask you a serious of questions (about your work history, goals and things that are suppose to be able to help them determine if you are a good fit for the service.

I was asked about my nursing background and if I had a family. Which you should be honest about whether you have a family or not. If you are a single parent, how can you handle you military commitment with respect to your family obligations (such as deployments and having a care plan for your children if and when you deploy).

By far the most exhaustive selection process of any job I've applied for. You submit a package that goes before a board. Includes a physical, an essay, an application, and various and sundry other bits of paperwork. You interview with a Chief Nurse. College transcripts need to be submitted as well as letters of recommendation (this is one job where you will be judged based on your GPA). And then you wait awhile to see if you're selected. You have to do well in every area. You can't just charm the interviewer and bank on getting the job. The people who judge your package are completely separate from the person who interviews you, and the interview counts for only a small part of your package. In short, you have to look good on paper because the board who selects or rejects you will never see your face.
