      Candidatura

Ho presentato la mia candidatura online. La procedura ha richiesto 3 giorni. Ho sostenuto un colloquio presso US Biotek

      Colloquio

After applying online for US Biotek I was contacted by phone within a week or two of submitting the application. Part one of the interviewing process included a brief chat on the phone with the laboratory manager about past experience, details of the position that is open, and if still interested, the set up of a face to face interview the next day (if possible). The phone interview was very basic and only required the applicant to clarify the information presented on the resume submitted to confirm suitability for the position. The second part of the interview process was a face to face interview with the laboratory manager. Once introductions are made you are asked to fill out an application form that includes all the information one typically puts on their resume. In addition to the application there are a couple questions asking how your past job experience relates to the position you are applying for and a question asking for details about your strengths and weakness' in reference to skills. Then you are given a blank piece of computer paper and asked to write a couple paragraphs explaining why you think you are well suited for the position. This takes about an hour to complete and once finished the manager sits down with you and asks very standard and popular interview questions such as: name 10 strengths and weakness' (which 10 can be difficult to come up with on the weakness side of it), how well do you work with others, what is the ideal work environment, tell me a saying that you believe conveys your ideals/beliefs, etc. Once this part of the interview is over you will be asked to come in again for another interview with another manager that will be reviewing your personality to determine if you will be a good fit for the work environment. This second interview is very brief and takes about 45 minutes. Questions asked are usually aimed at determining whether you are an extrovert or introvert and how you deal with stress on the job and around others. This interview is very easy going and much less intense compared to the first face to face interview. If the company has an interest in you for the position you will be asked to fill out a skills test that consists of word problems, pattern solving, basic math, and a typing test to confirm basic computer typing/usability skills. It isn't necessary to get all of the questions correct, however if you show competence in trying to solve the problems, an attention to the details of the questions, and basic skills in logic then you can get by with discussing the problem with the interviewer and attaining the correct answer through clarifications. When the second interview is completed they let you know that they will contact you if they feel you are a good fit and will do so in the near future. A job offer came very soon after the interview via phone and confirmation of acceptance of the job offer was sent via email. Overall the interviewing process was very standard and required a moderate level of preparedness prior to going into the interviews. Some items were requested to bring to the interview such as a copy of your college diploma, unofficial copy of college transcripts, and a laboratory notebook that demonstrates your ability to keep well maintained and accurate data in the laboratory. Also, as always, keeping extra copies of your resume and references on hand is advisable as you will most likely be asked for one or the other in both interviews. Not all items were reviewed but having them on hand will convey your preparedness and confidence as a scientist and (hopefully) future employee.
