The first contact with the company was a brief exchange of messages on LinkedIn, followed by a phone call with the person who contacted me. In this conversation she quickly described the company and the job. She also asked a few questions about me, my skills and my past professional experience. The entire call lasted no more than 20 minutes.
The next step was a coding exercise at Codility.com.
Two questions, each requiring to write an algorithm based on the given requirements, for a total time of 45 minutes.
At the end of the exercises, a number of tests were automatically run, checking for correctness and performance of the code submitted.
The coding exercises were quite challenging and required a certain level of coding skills and knowledge of algorithms.
Third step was a video call with the future manager.
In the first part of the call he described the team and the tasks I would be working on. The second part was a chat about my past experience, how I deal with problems, how I move to find solutions, how I normally interact with my team.
The fourth and final step was a series of three video interviews of 45 minutes each, with three different senior members of the team.
During the first interview, the interviewer gave me a coding exercise to complete in shared screen. He asked me to think out loud so he could follow my train of thoughts while proceeding in the solution of the problem.
The interviewer let me follow my ideas, but sometimes it intervened with some questions on the path I was following, perhaps to put my attention on some important details, or to give a useful hint that could point me in the right direction.
The second interview was about architectures, patterns, best practices and other technical stuff like this.
The third interview was more about my personality, how I behave in certain situations, how I interact with my peers, my superiors and the team. Less technical interview, but still technical.
The day after I've been notified that the company was happy to make me an offer, which I accepted.
The entire interviewing process was conducted in a way that I always felt comfortable. Everybody I interacted with were very friendly and made all the efforts to make me feel at ease during the interviews.
Indeed, if I have to express an evaluation on the interviewing process I would say very positive.
