Colloquio
One day after sending in my initial application, an HR rep sent me a questionnaire to fill out containing behavioral questions about my ability to work as a team player and so on. The very next day I was prompted to schedule a phone screening interview. The interview was very basic. The interviewer only asked me to explain the details in my resume. And then she asked me "Why Unum specifically?" and "Why do you want to be a Market Specialist for Unum?" The interview lasted 30 minutes.
Then, about ten minutes after my phone screen, I got a call from a different HR person from Unum. She explained the the person I talked to originally thought I would make a great candidate for another role that I did not originally apply for. This new role is called intake specialist. Basically they wanted me to work from 12:30PM - 9:00PM doing data entry. She told me that the salary is $28,730 non-negotiable and that this position is a way to get your foot in the door because Unum is such a competitive company to work for.... You cant even afford to live in Portland, ME for $28,730 a year....
Quite frankly, I was insulted by this. I am a college graduate currently pursuing a master's degree AND making more money in my current internship than Unum offered me. I applied to a decent sounding job and Unum just wanted to stick me in data entry so I could "prove myself." They also wanted me to sign a contract that said I would work in that position for 12-18 months before applying to a different role. They completely undervalued my potential and looked past all of my skills because they are pressured to fill bodies into this data entry position due to a high volume of work that never goes away.
I will not be applying to any Unum job in the future.
