      Candidatura

Ho presentato la mia candidatura online. La procedura ha richiesto più di 2 mesi. Ho sostenuto un colloquio presso Upside (Seattle, WA) nel mese di set 2023

      Colloquio

I will not rate or write a positive or negative experience, but simply describe the hiring process and my conclusions. **Process:** The hiring process was very long, taking almost two months starting from the recruiter's screening meeting to the final rejection. I had eight interviews (scheduled in 7 different days) and met with 13 people from a variety of departments and levels, including recruiters, hiring managers, product managers, technical team members, top graders, HR representatives, and other team stakeholders. **People:** Everyone I met was friendly, respectful, and pleasant to talk to. I would like to emphasize this point: I had a positive impression from the people that I met. **Conclusion:** I believe that long hiring processes are not a good practice, regardless of the company, and it is an indicator of a corporate culture that suffers from indecisiveness, complicated systems, and conformist/mediocre/unhappy members or culture. Here are my reasons: * It is better to hire someone who excels in one or two areas and is not good in other areas than to hire someone who is mediocre in all areas. A long hiring process is more likely to result in the hiring of mediocre employees. You better hire a student who is 1A + 3C than 4B although the second one passes all aread, he does not excel in any area and brings no excitement. BTW, there is no such a person with 4A and if there is one, he has other offers from top companies. * Reliance on committees and large group decisions is a sign of an indecisive culture. It is a way of passing the buck and avoiding making decisive decisions. A long hiring process is an indicator of indecisive corporate culture. * A complicated hiring process is a sign of a complicated system, process, and culture. Simplicity is difficult but very valuable. * Long hiring processes are wasteful for the company and exhausting for applicants. My conclusions are my personal opinion, so take them with a grain of salt. At the end my suggestion to the company is that "please change your process unless it complies with your culture". **Additional facts:** * A study by Glassdoor found that companies with longer hiring processes tend to have lower employee satisfaction and higher turnover rates. * A study by CareerBuilder found that 60% of job seekers have abandoned a job application because the process was too long.
