      Colloquio per Senior Consultant/Project Manager

      Candidatura

Ho presentato la mia candidatura online. La procedura ha richiesto 2 mesi. Ho sostenuto un colloquio presso Veeva Systems nel mese di nov 2018

      Colloquio

I applied online. The first interview was a phone screening with the hiring manager. The call, scheduled for “20-30 minutes”, lasted 70. Typical questions like, “Why do you want to work for us?” and “How did your background relate to this position?” The second interview was a video interview with one of the managers that reports to the hiring manager. This lasted an hour, and we dove deeper into some of the topics of my past as well as my interest in the company. The next step was the “candidate exercise”. They gave me access to a sandbox environment running their software, and 7 days to learn it, configure it, and put together a presentation. I was told that most people spend 40 hours preparing, and to pick a date for the presentation that would allow adequate prep time. I spent 35 hours on preparation. The presentation was an online presentation (no video, just me presenting my solution) to 4 or 5 employees. The presentation lasted an hour, and afterwards they asked me what I thought of their software, and how much time I spent on preparation. They then scheduled the next interview. The third interview was a video interview with someone else on the team. This interview focused on my project management background, and lasted an hour. I was asked typical project management questions (e.g., "How do you manage project risk?") The fourth interview was an in-person interview which focused on culture fit. The fifth interview was a video interview with the same person I talked to in interview 2. This was a “walk me through your resume” interview, with a lot of very basic questions that typically would be asked in an initial phone screening (e.g., “What was your primary responsibility at company XYZ?” “Why did you leave there?” “What were you most proud of?”) Ironically, in the 5th interview I asked about "speed" being one of the company's "core values" and was told that for them it means they design their processes to be as efficient as possible. I guess "recruitment" didn't get the memo. After the interview, I was requested to send an updated resume which included every job I’ve had since college, along with the dates of each job (my current resume only lists my most recent positions). After sending an updated resume, they then asked me to again update my resume and this time to list dates next to each degree I have, which I did. Almost 2 weeks later I got a rejection letter because I was “overqualified”, which they of course knew before I was ever contacted for the first interview. I also found it concerning that communication from them was quick and courteous in every situation until they saw my full resume with dates, and then communication slowed down and they missed their self-imposed deadlines for follow-up. Note: I rated the Interview Difficulty as "Average". No step was unusually hard or challenging, but it was very time consuming and inefficient.
