      Colloquio

As my previous review seems to have been deleted, I've submitted a fresh one. A few years ago I interviewed for a Videographer role. After a brief phone call interview where I was asked some basic questions, I was informed that I passed through to the next round, a face to face interview in their offices. All well and good but I was specifically told that I would meet their MD and to dress for the occasion. Not only was this a given, but I suddenly felt as if I had to impress the MD with my appearance, not my skills or experience. So this was a little red flag. Anyhow, I've been asked to prepare a pitch. This pitch may be used if I progress to the next round. So I come up with something before the next round. I arrived for my interview and was surprised that I wouldn't be meeting the MD. No problem, besides being told to dress to impress. I would be interviewed by a senior staff member and two of his colleagues. This wasn't an issue, only the two colleagues didn't seem to know this was going to happen. So I'm being interviewed by Senior Guy and his two, bewildered colleagues when suddenly the MD interrupts the interview to have a word with Senior Guy. I'm left with the two Colleagues and we basically make small talk because they have no idea what their role is in this interview. Senior Guy finally returns and continues the interview. I finish and then I'm asked to deliver the pitch for my idea. I present my idea and that's that. All done. I'm not left with the best impression, so when I'm asked back for round three I'm a little tentative. Turns out all the candidates who have progressed to the final interview round will all get a chance to pitch their idea to the MD. The candidate who gets the role will then create and execute their pitch into their first bit of work for the company. So I'm not entirely comfortable with being utilised this way. It felt like the company were basically getting a lot of creative ideas and input through the interview process. I had a suspicion that the eventual candidate may not have been appointed the role on merit alone, and that it was awarded to the candidate with the "best pitch". I got home and checked the reviews for this company and the negative reviews helped form my decision to retract my application.

Hello, Sorry to hear you had a poor experience in the past, naturally this is something we try our best to avoid. To reassure you we have no power to delete or add posts on Glassdoor so there’s no ability for us to remove anything. I’m sorry we never got the chance to meet, I can’t actually remember why but if you were told by a recruiter that this was the case, it should have been that way. As for being told to dress up, hey why not , first impressions count. But when you meet me you’ll quickly realise that’s not a core attribute on how we hire, I’m really not that cool. I’m sorry you felt the need to come back on and repost your experience after all this time, it’s clearly upset you. So here’s my chance to prove I’m not all that bad and maybe Venn could be reconsidered for you at some point as we are hiring now. Feel free to call my mobile anytime 07522191512 or you can email brian@venndigital.co.uk maybe we both deserve a second chance. Brian
