I have worked with people who are not at all familiar with the work we do who thrive after proper training and, inversely, with those who say they've worked in similar fields and have almost no idea what's going on half the time. Finally, and most importantly: DO NOT TRUST A WORD management says. If you're ever lucky enough to have a non-leadership employee in your panel, listen and look at them. They will tell you everything you need to know without saying a word.
