I applied for a role at Verizon Connect as an internal reference to backfill a CSM position. I initially had a positive experience during the standard hiring process. I received a verbal offer, which I accepted. However, I was then subjected to six weeks of "contract approval delays."
During this time, the hiring manager called to express enthusiasm about me joining the team, and to reassure me that the delays were expected, but "just taking a little longer than normal" and that the approval should come through soon. During this time, and due to the reassurances, I had resigned from my then current role to allow me some time off prior to starting at Verizon Connect. It wasn’t until six weeks AFTER i was verbally offered the role that I learned from Talent Acquisition (rather than from the hiring manager), that Verizon Connect never actually had the necessary approval to backfill the role, and were unable to get this approved from global.
Unfortunately, this had left me without a job in the currently highly competitive market for candidates. To further add to the negative experience, I received in error a "Welcome to Verizon Connect" email a few weeks later with onboarding instructions from Workday.
In today's market, I would never have resigned from my previous job if I had known I would wait 6 entire weeks to then find out that role wasn't approved. This entire experience was not only disorganised but also blatantly unethical. This poor hiring process has regrettably negatively impacted my employment situation.
I caution anyone considering a role with Verizon Connect to thoroughly verify all details before making any career decisions. This process was a clear lesson in how not to handle recruitment and candidate communication.
