      Colloquio

I received an email to interview with a number of dates and times to select from. I selected a date for the subsequent week, on a Tuesday afternoon. I arrived at the interview with plenty of time. There were at least a dozen people waiting in a large room. The interview was to consist of two parts; the first a group informative presentation to introduce the company, and the second part to be one-on-one with a recruiter. Shortly after sitting down, a recruiter appeared at the front of the room. She was wearing ratty cut-off shorts, so short that the pockets hung out of the bottom. The rest of her ensemble was a football tee and sneakers. She announced that all positions had been filled as of the previous week. Mind you, this was a Tuesday afternoon. None of us had received a phone call or email advising us that our interview had been cancelled. Given that this was a Tuesday afternoon, the company had a minium of 24 hrs to notify its candidates not to come to the new branch office in Smyrna, Georgia. Many people had traveled some distance to get to this interview. As we all filed out to the parking lot, frustration turned to anger. Luckily, I live less than five miles, but others had wasted their entire afternoon. All I could say to the others was "this should tell you a great deal about this company." Highly unprofessional. However, they did me a favor. I would never work for a company that has such little respect for the value of the time of its future work force.
