I was contacted by their recruiter Joe in regards to the role. He called me, walked me through the process and even resent the job spec after the call so I could prepare prior to interview. At the interview I was told there would be 3 hiring managers which felt excessive but I had no reservations at this point. When I arrived to virtual interview only two of the managers were there. The interview went incredibly well. I am just about to start a part time masters which focuses on one of their niche specialisms and the hiring manager mentioned that it would be worth us facilitating a conversation with the team so discuss how I might be able to lean in with them too as I became qualified. At the end of the call I asked if there was anything within my professional background that made them hesitate about my ability to do the job, to which they responded “no” and then laughed. I felt really positive about this interview, particularly after asking this question. It’s now been over 2 weeks and I’ve heard nothing. Not even a rejection. I’ve made countless phone calls and emails to the recruiter to no avail. It’s incredibly disappointing when companies you had aspirations to join behave in this way and poor candidate management will massively influence mine and others motivation to apply for roles in the future.

My interview process involved 2 rounds.
The first was a technical interview with the technical leads from the mining department. It was very easy going, they asked about who I was, what my career ambitions were, and previous experience. Second interview happened about about a month later with the Project Management Lead. It was called a coffee chat, where I was told more about the role. The coffee what was presented as informal, but was basically just another round.

The application process was straightforward. I submitted my application online and received a telephone screening within a week. The call was with a WSP talent acquisition representative who asked about my project management experience, as well as standard behavioral and HR questions, including salary expectations. The conversation went well, and the interviewer seemed positive and even outlined the next steps: a virtual interview followed by an in-person meeting.
However, after the call, I was ghosted for two weeks with no update. It became clear that I hadn’t advanced to the next round. The lack of communication was disappointing and reflected poorly on the company’s professionalism, especially after such a positive initial impression. Ultimately, I accepted a similar role with one of WSP’s competitors.
