A recruiter reached out to me via LinkedIn and requested a quick phone screen. After chatting over the phone, we scheduled a followup interview with the hiring team. Overall, the interview process was pretty standard. However, I was asked to take a BIM test to measure my competency level in Revit as a project manager. Now, this was the part of the interview that I found to be problematic. For one, all the shortcuts were reconfigured from the default settings, and I was not notified of this major change beforehand. I have over a decade of working experience with Revit in that I have memorized these shortcuts. They are instrumental in speeding up one's workflow as to produce models and drawings efficiently. I imagine that many experienced architects would have done the same and would have stopped relying on the navigation menus during the early years of their experience. Now, if you take these short cuts away without any notification, it can cause candidates to become blindsided at the start of the test. I was forced to rely on the navigation or to learn their custom shortcuts within a few minutes in order to complete the test within an hour. Another issue with this test that I had to remotely connect into their testing machine via a Zoom/VC. Using Zoom to remote connect into their machine was quite a frustrating experience. The latency in every step severely hampered my ability to move forward. There were several seconds of delays after every click. The whole experience was cumbersome and not a good way to measure proficiency in the program.
