Nice presentation of company business model in the beginning by friendly interviewers. However, this company lacks diversity. From what I saw about, about 95% of the employees are Chineses. The language spoken in the company was mostly Chinese. There was one Indian looking employee sitting in a room by himself. He didn't look very happy. I also met one eastern European engineer who conducted the first meeting. Once inside the company, it feels like you're in China, most employees there speak to each other in Chinese. The food they had there was also, of course Chinese. The company smells like a Chinese restaurant during lunch. The writing in bathroom was also in Chinese which led me to suspect some of the people there do not speak English. One of my interviewer also spoke to me in Chinese. She explains that the work requires intensive interaction with China, so my Chinese would be very helpful. The engineers who conducted the interview are very junior engineers. I was told that they need experience people to guide them. One engineer told me that the number of shares outstanding is a company secret, so I guess there is no way to evaluate the value of any stock option grant they give you. I was also told that the company is a subsidiary of a parent company in China. Not sure if I know how to evaluate this from a stock option perspective, owning Chinese stock in a startup in the silicon valley. Overall the people were nice, but I wouldn't want to work for a startup where they don't disclose the number of shares outstanding and where the parent company is in China. This is not a normal silicon valley startup.
