      Candidatura

Ho presentato la mia candidatura tramite un selezionatore. La procedura ha richiesto una settimana. Ho sostenuto un colloquio presso Western Reserve (Medina, OH) nel mese di gen 2012

      Colloquio

I contacted an independent recruiter who posted this job on Linkedin. He arranged a phone interview with the IT manager and one of his reports. That went well enought that they brought me in a few days later to meet with them in person. No problems yet, everyone was pleasant and seemed very open an honest. After this phase I was told they thought they had a good feeling about me and I would just need to meet with their HR person as a formality. Here is where things got weird. I show up on time. I'm wearing a jacket and tie because I know it is a conservative company. The HR person comes and gets me after a few minutes. We go to his office and things seem normal. This isn't really an interview as much as it is him just giving me information about the company. At one point he mentions their work week is 8-5 Mon-Fri, and I tell him that I understand as an IT employee I would working above and beyond those hours. He asks me what I mean, and his tone of voice is as if I offended him. I nicely told him that IT has work to do that can only be done outside of production hours, and things can break at night or on weekends. Also that I was told that they had a very ambitious project lineup for the year and were understaffed as it were. He said that was the first time he had heard IT works outside the 8-5 time frame! HUH??? At another point he asked me if I knew anything about benefits, and I told him that the IT manager had gone over benefits in my first interview. When I said this he became visibly upset, and repeated the question in a slightly different way as if in disbelief. Noticing he was upset, I expounded on what I said before and told him the IT manager just gave me a basic rundown of some of the benefits. The final odd thing is that the recruiter, the IT manager, and 2 guys I talked to during the first in person interview all referred to the job being a 4 month contract-to-hire. The HR person told me it was 12 weeks contract to hire. I told him it was my understanding it was 4 month contract, and he said 'no, our IT positions are always done as 12 week contract to hire" This interview only ended up being at the most 33 minutes. He gave me literature on their benefits before I left and said goodbye. I followed up the next morning with the recruiter and told him what a weird interview it was. He has known the HR person for several years and couldn't believe what I was telling him. While continuing to talk about the experience and agreeing that this was not the place for me, he got an email from the company saying they were going to pass on me. So I don't know what that HR person told the IT manager, but overall I would say this company has a weird way of hiring people. It was the most surreal interview experience ever when I was dealing with the HR person and I honestly wonder if he wasn't losing it.
