Breezed through the first round. Second round engineer had a real chip on his shoulder. I aced all his questions, but he was mostly concerned with proving this would be harder than any other job I had. He must have not bothered to read my resume b/c that was ridiculous.

      Domanda 1

What are you passionate about (I expect they want you to say "targeted advertising using data bought from Nielsen's without any particularly interesting technology of our own")

      Colloquio

A recruiter from WideOrbit reached out to me and seemed enthusiastic to get me into the interview process because they "had a position I would be a great fit for". She asked me some basic questions like "what is JSX"? I moved onto an interview with a hiring manager. It was very conversational and went well. After the interview, they immediately wanted to schedule technical interviews, one for C# and one for React. First I had the C# interview. I enjoyed speaking to my interviewer. I was asked some questions about my experience and how it related to C#. Have I used Entity framework? How would I go about doing authentication in .NET? Then I had a coding exercise where I had to take some Person objects that had FirstName and LastName fields and print them out to a CSV. Pretty straightforward interview that went well. Then the nightmare interview came. The React interview was conducted by a contractor while the first hiring manager I spoke to took a backseat. They proceeded to grill me with a bunch of JavaScript minituia. "Why are hooks in React called hooks?" "What do you know about multithreading in JavaScript?" They sent me links to a bunch of different codepens with code and asked me what I think would happen when each of them would execute. One of the examples had a function that would console.log the typeof of a bunch of different JS expressions (e.g. console.log(typeof 42); console.log(typeof null). One thing that was really frustrating about this interview is that there were times where I would take a second to think about how I wanted to word my answer and the contractor would just start answering the question for me. He also did this to me when I would start to answer a question and I would get maybe two words in before he would speak over me. Needless to say, the interview didn't go well. Up to this point, the recruiter was super communicative with me and after this interview that stopped. They basically ghosted me. I definitely dodged a bullet because there's no way I would want to work with this guy.

Ho presentato la mia candidatura online. Ho sostenuto un colloquio presso WideOrbit (Los Angeles, CA) nel mese di gen 2021

      Colloquio

Initially spoke to someone from their HR department. After the initial chat, they asked me a 10 question technical test. Nothing too difficult, but it went good. Was told that my application would be moved onto the next phase. Someone from their software team would be contacting me for a more in-depth technical interview. Had the second interview (manager of one of their development teams) and this interview consisted of more algorithm type questions (screen sharing). How I could improve the speed of certain algorithms etc. It was a very in-depth test. Everything was done in C#. This second interview lasted about 1.5 hours. Few days later someone from HR called me back and said the technical interview went well and they would now like me to speak to another person in their software team for another technical test. I just thought to myself, how many technical tests do these people need? I have a job and cannot just take 3 hours out of my day to perform more meaningless technical tests. These guys are not Google or Microsoft. What do they need to see to show that I can do the job? Don't get me wrong. Everyone I spoke to was very professional and polite. But the number of technical tests they want is just too much. People cannot just take hours out of their working day to accommodate what this company is looking for. I declined to continue my application further at this point.
