I am an American worker. There aren't very many reviews from American workers interviewing for an Indian tech giant like WiPro, so let's begin. There were a lot of red flags from the start of this process. While I can't tell you if WiPro is a good company to work for or not, I can tell you that the interview process sets off some flags from the get go. First, you speak with a recruiter. In the initial phone call, the recruiter never made it clear who I would even be working for. They named the company and I immediately was excited, as it is a large financial company. I assumed they were just the middle-man. Second, the recruiter wanted to schedule a technical interview with an engineer over Skype. She asked me for TWO days that I could possibly do the interview and I would basically have to wait around all day on these two days in the event that the interviewer has a chance to do the interview. I wait around for the two days we agreed upon and nothing happened. No emails or phone calls. At this point, I was basically over it. The next week, she calls back and tells me that she was sorry no one called, but to tell her two more days that week I would be available. At this point, I was very close to saying don't bother but figured, what the heck, let us try again. Next day, I hear nothing. Then I get an email saying "We tried to call you but you didn't answer." Oh, wait yes, you sure did, but one thing you should know about WiPro is they never leave a voice mail. In the day of robocalls, I tend to not answer every random number that calls my phone. I then clarify that I would be receiving a phone call, not an email. She said yes, they will call you and then you will go to the Skype interview. Uh ok. How hard is it to just schedule a day and time for an interview? Time is one of the most precious comaddites these days and they seem to not really care about your time. The next day I sit around doing nothing waiting for them to call. They eventually call and we do the Skype interview. The actual technical interview was more or less standard OOP questions and some Java trivia. There was also some coderpad questions doing basic Java programming. Nothing too difficult, but you need to know Java (or whatever langauge the interview is for). The difficult part was understanding the interviewer. English is not his native language (it is an Indian IT company after all), so more often than not, I would have to have him repeat his question. At one point I had him type out his question... I felt like I was annoying him and at the end of the interview he abrutdly said he was finished. I figured I had just gotten on his nerves. A few days after the interview, I get a phone call asking if I could work on July X. That day was literally a week away. They wanted me to move 1600 miles in under a week. I told them, I literally couldn't do it without the funds to do so. She said "Ok, I'll have someone call you." I never received that call. Eventually, I received an email basically saying I will receive an offer. At this point, I had no other offers. I soon accepted the written offer, but still had not signed the official employee docs. The offer wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. They offered relocation, but only after I moved and submitted receipts. As a recent college graduate, I had zero dollars saved up for a 1,600 mile move across the country. They didn't care. I just kept being reassured that "This is a great offer for you." Third, the fact that they did one short and kind of strange Skype interview and decided to hire me, set off a large red flag. How do they even know I am a decent person to work with? How can you judge a persons character from a 30 minute Skype interview? Would I have been thrown in a room with a bunch of foreign developers punching away at bugs? Luckily, I ended up getting an offer locally for a lot more money, doing work that is much more rewarding. They took me out to lunch, got to know me, and then made a decision. I addmitly was not as transparent with the recruiter when I was interviewing with the second company, but I did not even have close to anything of an offer when I agreed to the written offer with WiPro. I wasted three days of their time and that upset them, but they wasted over a week and half of mine. The fourth flag was after I emailed the recruiter to let her know I accepted a local offer. All I heard back was radio silence. The entire process showed to me that they cared very little about me as a human being. I was a mere commadity. As an entrly level employee, it is hard to say no to an offer, and WiPro might be great for that first few years, but I highly doubt any American workers are going to last there for very long.
