Pretty informal. Advisor went over his research and I asked questions. I had to dedicate to his lab in order to get accepted, so at first I wasn't too thrilled since it left me with no other options to explore. But overall, the interview process was not difficult. TA is assigned by department but you can switch with someone if they agree with it. Workload for TAs is pretty high.
