      Colloquio

      Applied directly online, received a HR email inviting me to a screening call the next day. The screening call was relatively pleasant, establishing experience and expectations. They talked about the teams at a high level, asked about expected salary, explained benefits, and took questions. The next step was a video/Zoom call with a tech lead. He was very friendly and it was mostly an informal chat about experience and the team, and he finished with some behavioural and high level tech questions. He explained the next step was an online tech test, and following that an on-site interview where they would discuss the tech test solution, have an interview with the hiring manager, and lunch with the team. The tech test was through HackerRank, and tested JavaScript, CSS and HTML (as this was a front-end position). You are provided with a template project that renders a simple HTML components like input boxes, and you then implement some of missing functionality of these components. There was an additional 'optional extra' question about rendering a simple HTML chart. You have option of editing the files directly through HackerRank or cloning and pushing directly to a Git repo through a provided link. I submitted the test and was informed a few days later by HR that the additional extra question 'did not work' and they wouldn't be proceeding with the application. I tested extensively on my local Chrome, but did run into weird WebSocket and JavaScript errors appearing through the HackerRank console when I tried to preview my submission through there. I'm not sure if this factored into the failure or not. Overall it was a pleasant experience. Everyone came as very friendly and personable, and the general consensus of Glassdoor over Workday preferring 'soft' interview questions over 'hard' technical tests seems to be true for any preparing to interview here.

      The 1st round was with the Hiring Manager. Unlike many companies, Workday handled this differently — it was more of a casual discussion focused on behavior, past experience, and overall fit rather than a strict technical screening. The 2nd round focused on the AI projects I worked on. The discussion included topics like handling context overload, modal judgment, and practical challenges faced while building AI-driven solutions. The 3rd round was a coding and technical design round where problem-solving, system thinking, and implementation approaches were evaluated. The final round was a job-critical discussion focused mainly on RAG pipelines, LangChain, and related AI architecture concepts.

      I applied for the position through the company website and I was contacted by the recruiter. The recruiter was very professional and explained to me in detail on the interview steps, after which I was sent an email asking me to select the time slot for the first step which is the hiring manager round. Had a good conversation with the hiring manager. The discussions were on the projects which I have worked on. After the first round there has been no contact by the recruitment team till today. When I tried reaching out, I was ignored. I think these days companies are sunsetting the rejection email feature to save the cost or may be it is handled by AI , which might be thinking that such human courtesy is not required.

      Manager Round. Followed my HM round, two technical round ( coding + system design). Then final decision. Team said cleared the interview loop but not a good fit to hire for senior software engineer position.
