Two stage interview. First interview was with a head of department and was more of an introduction to the company with some Q&A towards the end. The second interview a week later was with the same hiring manager and another member of staff, who as it was explained to me had been performing some of the duties of the role and was now planning to move on, hence the role becoming available,
The second interview was more in depth with a few questions about my experience and why I wanted the job. I was also asked to take part in a 10-15 minute role play session, This hadn’t been mentioned to me previously and so I wasn’t prepared for this. Particularly as the scenario was for me to advise on a Cloud Migration strategy complete with estimated costings and timings (with hardly any information provided to go on!) and a combative and at times passive aggressive attitude from one of the interviewers!
It was obvious during the second interview that my actual skills and experience within Service Delivery were of no relevance, and I was left with the impression that they were not really sure what it is they need and what they are looking for.
After being told to expect a call in a few days, and then waiting over 3 weeks without hearing anything I decided to follow up. It was only after I did so that I received a slightly confusing reply saying everyone had been busy at a industry conference and the role had now been put on hold. But one of the hiring managers thought I’d be more suited to another role they have (no details provided). That was over 2 months ago now.
Assumed after a few days it was going to be a ‘no’, but would have appreciated a simple phone call / email.
All in all a rather poor interview experience, lacking clear structure, with no feedback process to speak of, and phone calls / updates that were promised but never materialised.
